Description

This study was embarked upon to examine the vocational interest and proficiency in typewriting among undergraduate students in Ogun State-Owned universities. The specific objective of the study was to examine the vocational interest of students in typewriting; to study the typewriting skills of students in other to know their typing proficiency and to investigate the relationship between interest and efficient typing ability of students in state-owned school. The study adopted descriptive survey research design using two Ogun State state-owned university (Olabisi Onabanjo University and Tai Solarin University of Education). The sample size of the study consisted of 369 students drawn from Business Education and Secretarial Studies Department in the selected schools using random sampling techniques. The instrument used in the study were Pre-Assessment Questionnaire and Jackson Vocational Interest Survey. The data collected for the study were analysed using simple percentage, frequency count and t-test statistical method of analysis. The findings of the study revealed that students’ interest in typewriting is moderate. It also revealed that the student typing proficiency is good. It showed that the students typing proficiency had a significant relationship with their vocational Interests. Among other recommendation of the study is that all the task involved in typewriting operation should be recognized and defined right from the onset in order to serve as a guide to the teacher and the students.
