Description

ABSTRACT
This research investigated the role of communication on marital stability. Three research hypotheses were tested in the study. The research employed descriptive survey research using questionnaire as the prime instrument. The population for the study consists of 200 married men and women drawn from Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Findings for the study revealed that there is significant relationship between marital satisfaction and communication (r-.474<0.05). It showed that there is no significant relationship between marital satisfaction and duration of marriage (r=.184*>0.05). The findings also revealed that there is a significant difference in the perception of communication competence of male and female respondents. Among other recommendations is that that marital counselling clinics in all nooks and crannies of Nigeria should be encouraged in order to help in reducing breakup in cases where communication and other factors cause divorce or separation in marriage.
