Description

At every point in time all economic system depends on the activity of a particular market for the sustenance of economic growth and development. In the Nigerian setting, the stock market is the pool of all financial resources and that activities in this market can either make or mar organizational activities despite the fact that employees in this organization put in all that is possible to make organizations depend less and function more off the stock market. With the trends of things in the Nigerian economy, where organizations are folding and employees loosing their desire to stay, the study examines the interplay between the stock market and employee’s motivation. The study exhausted the Economic crisis and the Maslow hierarchy of needs theory to provide theoretical pathways for the study which adopted a descriptive survey research design. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select samples for the study. Quantitative techniques of data collection was also used and data collected where analyzed using the frequency distribution table and statistical package for the social and management sciences
The study was able to reveal that inability of personnel’s in charge to control the forces of demand and supply in the stock market creates organizational and societal problem of reduced income for workers, rightsizing and labour turnover among others which de-motivates employees to work.
It is no doubt that activities in the stock market influences all other sectoral activities and must henceforth be curtailed for better performance of the economic system. Inability to manage the ongoing in the stock market will have both internal and external effect on the organization and employees within it.
