Description

Despite the enormous importance of teachers’ characteristic and motivation on instructional materials to enhance academic performance of students in financial accounting, it appears most schools have limited quality teachers, learning resources/materials and even in the school that have adequate instructional material, teachers might not be motivated to use them effectives. This study therefore investigated the teachers’ characteristics and motivation as determinants of effective use of instructional materials in teaching senior secondary accounting students in Ijebu-North. The study employed descriptive survey research design using questionnaire as the prime instrument. Stratified random sampling techniques was employed to select 34 secondary school accounting teachers that participated in the study. The questionnaire distributed to the participant was analysed using descriptive statistics such as simple percentage, independent t-test and ANOVA. The findings of the study revealed that that teachers’ characteristics and motivation significantly determine effective use of instructional materials in teaching senior secondary school accounting students. It was therefore recommended that Ministry of labour should work out incentive packages to increase teachers’ motivation to teach in secondary schools. Special attention should be put at increasing teacher‘s salaries and make available instructional materials for teaching.
