ABSTRACT
This study investigated students’ attitude and disposition towards Citizenship Education as tool for patriotism among youth with focus on public secondary school in Ijebu-Ode Area of Ogun State, Nigeria.
The research adopted a survey research design. The total population for the study comprised of one hundred and twenty students in the selected secondary and the instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The data generated were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency count, simple percentage, t-test and Analysis of Variance.
Findings from the study showed that students have positive attitude towards citizenship education as tool for patriotism among youth. Also, it was revealed that students have positive disposition towards citizenship education as tool for patriotism among youth. It was shown that there was no significant gender difference of students’ attitude towards education as tool for patriotism among youth. Results showed there was significant difference of students’ attitude on student’s class towards citizenship education as tool for patriotism among youth.
The study therefore recommended that government needs to invest heavily on the teaching of citizenship education in every educational level because this will continue to improve the attitude and disposition of students towards patriotism among youth.
