ABSTRACT

The study investigated secondary school students’ perception on teaching OF Business Studies as foundation for inculcating self-reliance. Four research questions were raised and answered in the study. Also three research hypotheses were formulated and tested in this study. The sample of this study comprised two hundred (200) Junior Secondary School Students selected from five (5) secondary schools in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Data was collected using research instruments designed and validated by the researcher. The data were analysed using inferential statistical tool such as frequency count, simple percentage variance (ANOVA) and independent t-test analysis at 0.05 level of significant. The findings of the study showed that students acquired enough knowledge and skills by learning Business Studies; Business Studies as a Subject inculcate self-reliance among the secondary school students that participated in this study; There exist a significant relationship between teaching of Business Studies and self-reliance among secondary school students and there are numerous problems facing the teaching of Business Studies in secondary schools. It was concluded that there is no significant difference in the perception of secondary school students with age group, gender and religion on the teaching of Business Studies as foundation for inculcating self-reliance. Among other recommendations is that National Policy on Education should designed Business Studies curriculum to emphasize self-reliance.
