Description

The study examined school factors as predictors of Secondary School Students achievement in Economics in some selected secondary schools in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Four research questions were raised to guide this study. The sample of this study comprises of 240 Economics students, 40 teachers and 12 principals selected from secondary school in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Data was collected using three research instruments designed and validated by the researcher, School Questionnaire (SCHQ), Teachers Attitude Towards Economics Teaching Questionnaire (TATATQ) and Economics Achievement Test (ECAT). The data were analysed using inferential statistical tool such as mean, t-test, Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple regression analysis at 0.05 level of significant. The findings in the study implied that (school location, school size, class size, school library, principal qualification and experience) when taken together, significantly predicts students achievement in Economics. In their relative contribution, school location contributed highest to students achievement followed by school size, principal experience, qualification and school library respectively. The study recommended that policy makers at various levels need to place emphasis on experience and qualification of principals, also a well-equipped library in order to improve students’ performance in Economics.
