ABSTRACT
This study investigate the influence of Global System for Mobile Communication in news gathering reporting and feedback. The study specifically find out the role Global system of mobile communication (GSM) play in journalism practice in Nigeria; determine if Nigerian journalists have fully embraced the use of GSM phones in sending breaking news stories across to their media organization; unravel the advent of GSM as prospect for brighter future in the practicing of Journalism Nigeria and also unravel the challenges that hinders Nigerian journalists from maximizing the benefits of GSM phone in their media organization. The study employed descriptive survey design. A sample size of 120 journalist were drawn from Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo state, Nigerian Television Authority and Fresh FM. Questionnaire was used to gather information from the respondents and the data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings from the study revealed that the use of GSM in information gathering and dissemination by journalist no doubt has brought about both benefits and problems in information gathering and reporting. Also, GSM has enhanced information gathering and dissemination, this has caused journalist to leave their traditional methods of operation. Despite the problems embedded in the contexts in which they operate, they appreciate the benefits associated with the use of GSM in their professional functions. Among other recommendations is that government should also provide journalist with sophisticated equipment and adequate provision of power supply to enable them carry out their duties smoothly.
