ABSTRACT
With the abundance of films produced weekly in Nigeria, it is believed that there are lot of movies/films that have derailed the moral values of Nigeria likewise there are movies that helps in building the moral values of Nigeria youth. This study tends to investigate the ethics and morality in film by looking critically into the contents and themes of “Maami” to ascertain how it has helped in improving the moral values of Nigerian citizens, most especially the youths.
The Cultivation theoretical model develop by Gerbner was engaged. The study was subjected to content analysis, observation and interpretation method.
It is observed from the research that the selected film promotes Yoruba cultural values i.e. language, dressing, sexuality etc. and illustrates the importance of African culture. It also shows the importance of parental love for children.
Nigerian film producers should lay more emphasis on producing films that promotes moral and ethical value.
