Description

Cooperative learning is one of the most widespread and fruitful areas of theory, research, and practice in education. This study is a meta-analytic study that investigates the effects of cooperative learning approach on academic achievement of secondary school chemistry. The research study adopted the purposive sampling technique, where 30 sample studies examining effects of cooperative learning approach on students’ academic achievement in secondary chemistry were selected. The data used for the study was obtained from library and online database (E-library). This study is guided by three research questions and three research hypotheses, regression analysis was used to analyse the data collected. This meta-analysis research study revealed that: cooperative learning have significant effect on academic achievement of secondary school chemistry. The study therefore recommended that secondary school teachers should make sure that while teaching students in chemistry, they should make use of cooperative learning approach more than the conventional method. Students should try to embrace cooperative teaching approach because it makes teaching and learning more interesting.
