Description

Globalization being a contemporary issue has attracted a handful of studies, most of them revealed that globalization can trigger economic development, sustain growth, increase trade as well as alleviate poverty to a very large extent. The relationship between globalization and poverty level has been subject to prolonged and unresolved debate both in developed and developing nations. Many authors are of the opinion that globalization has actually reduced poverty in the developed countries. Therefore, this study examined effect of trade globalization on the poverty reduction in Nigeria. The research work highlight the challenges of globalization on the Economic of Nigeria, challenges of trade globalization on poverty reduction and benefit on international trade in order to see if Nigeria has experienced a noticeable growth in reduction of poverty. The study covered the period of 1993 to 2013. Secondary data was adopted through Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Statistical Bulletin. The study adopted the econometric techniques of the Non-Monotonic modeling and the Analysis of variance (ANOVA) modeling and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) to estimation technique. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between trade globalization and poverty reduction in Nigeria. It was therefore recommended that government should encourage globalization, by embarking on trade liberalization policies in order to accelerate and sustain industrial growth and in turn reduce poverty.
