Description

Costume and make-up includes both body modifications and supplements, or everything done or applied to the body to alter one‘s appearance and satisfy socio-cultural expectations. Research on costume and make-up is mostly done because of its importance in identifying psychological and social components of experience through visual cues. This study was set out to examine the appraisal of costumes and make-up in 2015 Lagos Carnival with focus on Isolo Legend. The study adopted library study, interview, participatory observation and content analytical method. Each of this method was used to gather relevant information for the study. The study showed the aesthetic of costume and make-up in Lagos Carnival and exposed the importance of costume and makeup designs in carnival. It was evident that costume and makeup add to the aesthetic values of the Lagos Carnival because without costume and makeup, a carnival will lack authentication, beautification and identification. It was therefore recommended that full study is required in either costume or make-up as an important element in Carnival while activities of Lagos carnival should be documented by the organisers so as to have data when carrying out related studies to this research.
