Description

The objective of the study was to examine team work and trust implication for performance in Ogun State, South West Nigeria. This is imperative because in a global business, conscious team building is one of the key factors to success. It is better to have a first-rate team with a second-rate plan, than to have a second-rate team with a first-rate plan. The goal of teamwork is to maximise synergy between different parts of the organization. Teams can¬not perform without strong social in¬teraction. Social interaction needs trust. When building high-performing teams, one of the most essential aspects is trust. In an attempt to achieve the broad objective of the study, four hypotheses was raised in the study for validation and a sample of the non-teaching staff of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State was used in the study. Data for the analysis was collected through the use of a self-structure design questionnaire. The simple percentage method was used in the analysis of the demographic data of the respondents, while, correlation analysis was used in the analysis of the research hypothesis and the result of the analysis was facilitated using the statistical package for social and management sciences (SPSS 20.0). The result of the analysis at 5% level of significance found that teamwork has a significant strong positive implication on individual employee’s performance in Nigeria in Nigeria. The result also shows that trust has a significant negative implication on work team performance in Nigeria. It was also established that trust does not have a significant implication on stress in work team in Nigeria. Finally the study found that trust has a significant positive implication on team cooperation and efficiency in Nigeria. Among others, the study recommends that organizations should depart from a culture that encouraged competing personalities, factionalism, and autocratic management to a culture that stresses teamwork, collective entrepreneurship through employee involvement and participative management.
