Description

The poor performance in teaching and learning of commerce can be the result of teacher’s method of teaching and experience, learners’ learning methods, motivation among others. This study therefore investigated the perception of senior secondary school teachers and students towards teaching and learning of commerce in Ogun State. The population of this study comprised of hundred students and 30 teachers drawn from 10 selected secondary school in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Two research instrument was used to answer the research questions, Teachers Questionnaire on Perception of Senior Secondary School Commerce and Student Questionnaire on Perception of Senior Secondary School Commerce. The findings of the study revealed that students have positive perception towards the learning of commerce. The study also revealed that teachers perceived commerce teaching positively but agreed that student get confuse during the teaching of commerce. The study also showed that teachers’ perception on the adequacy of materials for teaching and learning of commerce is not consistent. The study therefore recommends that government needs to encourage the teachers in order to effectively carry out their duties.
