Description

This study examined the molecular analysis of Apis mellifera adansonii from the environment of Ijebu in Ogun State, Nigeria. Honeybee samples were collected from 22 hives/colonies and subjected to molecular analysis using SSR markers to determine the genetic variability of the honeybees. The extracted DNA were of good quality and were extracted using modified Murray and Thompson method. The DNAs were amplified using 7 SSR primers; A81, A29, A113, A107, A14, IC1, B124. The bands were scored for their presence (1) or absence (0) in the SSR profile populations to determine the genetic diversity and to construct the dendogram. Factorial analysis showed that there is genetic differentiation in the populations of honey bees. In all, 81bands were scored out of which 80 were polymorphic and only one band was monomorphic.
