Description

The study examined the impact of internationalization strategy on the performance of small and medium scale enterprises in Nigeria. The study investigates specifically the impact of internationalization strategy on performance of small and medium scale enterprises and SMEs sales growth. The study makes use of primary data collected through questionnaire using a total number of one hundred and twenty (120) questionnaire distributed to born-global small scale business firms operating in Ogun State to test the two hypotheses raised in the study. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple regression technique were adopted for the analysis and the result of the estimation was facilitated using the statistical package for social and management sciences (SPSS). From the data analysis, it was at evident that internationalization has significant negative effect on performance small and medium scale enterprises. The result also shows that internationalization strategy has significant positive effect on SMEs growth and survival. Among others, the study recommended that business managers should consider social networks as an efficient means of helping internationally oriented SMEs to go international more rapidly and profitably. In addition businesses should pay more attention on product factor, cost factor and competitive factor in the foreign countries in order to be more competitive and profitable, and they should establish subsidiaries overseas and utilize the host country’s advantages to develop their business
