Description

This study examined the influence of affective commitment on organizational citizenship behavior among local government workers of Ijebu North Local Government Secretariat in Ogun State. Opinions of 120 local government workers were randomly gathered using questionnaire. Hypotheses were generated and tested using Pearsons’ correlation and multiple regression analysis. The result of the estimation was interpreted using the t-value and probability. From the result of the analysis, it was established that affective commitment significantly influenced sportsmanship (t (120) = 29.178; p< .01). It was also found that affective commitment significantly influenced courtesy (t (120) = 12.847; p< .01). The study also established affective commitment significantly influenced altruism (t (120) = 6.082; p< .01). The study also found that affective commitment significantly influenced civil orientation (t (120) = 4.150; p< .01). Finally, it was established that affective commitment did not significantly conscientiousness (t (120 = 1.740; p >.05). Among others, the study recommends that managers should pay attention to the means of improving job scope, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in order to improve employee engagement in OCBs
