The growing number of failures in senior secondary school certificate examination in recent time among students has become a cause of concern not only to teachers but to parents and society at large. Some of the causes of this failure is the teachers’ method of teaching. This study therefore investigated the effect of cooperative learning strategy on students’ academic performance in senior secondary school commerce. The population for the study comprised of hundred students from two selected secondary school in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Three research hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. Commerce Achievement Test was used to test the achievement of the student in both the pre-test and post-test experiment of the study. The findings showed that there is significant effect of cooperative learning strategy on the influence of students’ academic performance positively. The study revealed that there is significant effect of experimental conditions on post-test scores of Commerce Achievement test among participants in the two groups. The study also showed there is no significant interaction effect of Commerce Achievement test among participants in the two experimental groups due to gender. The study therefore recommends that cooperative learning approach should be made a compulsory part of the curriculum for colleges of education and universities so as to help in equipping would be teachers adequately for the task of this modern age lesson delivery approach.
