AABSTRACT
The University based Theatre is the basis of theatre practices in the larger society because the institution trains the practitioners. However, as relevant as the Academics Theatre is, due attention has not been given to it; specifically in the area of the Management of their Theatre. Therefore, this study examines the prospect and challenges of managing academic theatre using the Olabisi Onabanjo University’s Performing Arts Department Theatre as a case study.
This study adopted qualitative research design using library based method and one-on-one indepth interviews to generated information.
Findings from the study revealed that audience comfort, inadequate finance, transportation and time constraint are some of the major challenges faced by University-based theatres.
The study concluded that, management in any academic theatre productions should not be over looked. It then recommended that further studies is required in the management of any academic production in order to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of resource deployment and therefore help in achieving the overall objectives of the productions
